RBTL ANNOUNCES ROBERTS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY AS OFFICIAL MUSIC EDUCATION PARTNER
(Rochester, NY) – The Rochester Broadway Theatre League (RBTL) is excited to announce a new, first-of-its-kind collaboration with Roberts Wesleyan University as the organization’s Official Music Education Partner. Together, RBTL and Roberts Wesleyan University will promote music education at both the high school and collegiate levels, to help develop the next generation of musicians, performers and educators, through performance, training and scholarship opportunities.
“We are excited about this for a variety of reasons; some you might not think of. What is the purpose of a Performing Arts Center but to shepherd the creation of and showcase great performers? Like us, Roberts Wesleyan University has the desire to shape those performers, and because of that, we knew this was the kind of collaboration we were looking for,” said RBTL CEO and Board Chair, Arnie Rothschild. “Between the ongoing work at the West Herr Performing Arts Center and this new partnership, the arts and entertainment landscape in Rochester is changing. And we are proud to be the ones transforming it along with Roberts Wesleyan University.”
“Great arts communities invest in the next generation,” said Roberts Wesleyan University President, Dr. Nicholas Willis. “Rochester is truly a great arts community and RBTL has invested heavily in it for years. Young musicians need opportunities to grow their gifts and find ways to share them. Both RBTL and Roberts provide those opportunities. Together, we can provide even more. We are honored to join RBTL as their first Official Music Education Partner.”
As part of this partnership, Roberts Wesleyan University will award one full-tuition music scholarship each year to a student in RBTL’s Stars of Tomorrow program, which showcases up to 50 local schools annually, and recognizes the high school musical and its performing arts students in Tony® Award fashion. The scholarship will allow a talented, local young artist to pursue their passion for music and performance at the collegiate level. Roberts Wesleyan University’s Music & Performing Arts Department offers a focus in multiple areas, including Music, Music Education, Music Performance and Music Therapy.
“There are so many talented young musicians in our community, and we want them to see that pursuing music in college is a real possibility,” said Roberts Wesleyan University Department of Music and Performing Arts Chair, Megan Resig. “Through this partnership with RBTL, we have an opportunity to connect with students who are already passionate about music, introduce them to the programs and opportunities available at Roberts, and help them take that next step. I’m especially excited that we’ll be able to offer a full-tuition scholarship that could make a college music education possible for a deserving student.”
Music and arts in the classroom inspire creativity, nurture talent and promote cultural understanding. Both RBTL and Roberts Wesleyan University take pride in fostering this philosophy, and this new partnership will enhance its implementation in the Rochester community. Both institutions look forward to exploring many more ways to collaborate, which will benefit both high school and college musicians looking to pursue careers in the arts.
